Whether he is putting strippers down the Fendi runway or criticising someone for their weight, no one knows how to ruffle feathers like Karl Lagerfeld. And for someone who is in his 80s, there seems to be no stopping him.
Collaborating with Carine Roitfeld for the latest issue of her CR Fashion Book, Karl Lagerfeld crossing the boundaries between what is masculine and what is feminine with Austrian singer Conchita Wurst and model Ashleigh Good who walked as a pregnant bride in his Fall 2014couture show.
Entitled “The New Normal”, the editorial has both models crossing stereotypical and gender roles to play on each of the subjects current gimmicks – pregnancy and a beard. While there is nothing particularly wrong with the editorial and it is great to see Lagerfeld and Roitfeld pushing boundaries, it doesn’t feel very Chanel at all.
Is the woman currently paying £100,000 plus for a Chanel couture suit going to connect with this editorial? No. They can probably not even connect with a AW14 dreadlocked Cara Delevingne in head to toe Chanel gym gear in the current season campaign….
