No industry likes to celebrate like the fashion industry. It seems there is always some envelope or some bottle being opened… And we line up for it. But Louis Vuitton have something worth celebrating, with their new collaboration entitled ‘Celebrating Monogram Collection’, they have invited six leading designers and artists to reinterpret Louis Vuitton’s iconic monogram into functional pieces of art.
With the logo having been a design staple for the iconic French house since 1854, LV executive vice president Delphine Arnault enlisted Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld, photographer Cindy Sherman, architect Frank Gehry and other designers Marc Newson, Christian Louboutin, and Rei Kawakubo for the collaboration to celebrate the iconic French fashion house’s 160th birthday. And even though the project doesn’t include current creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, the campaign for the project certainly bares his mark with the designer’s favourite models Freja Beha Erichsen and Saskia de Brauw.
With all this celebration just for a logo’s birthday, it kind of makes your party look a little lame…
