R.I.P The Pocket.

As designers like Hedi Slimane have made us face the facts (and eating disorders) that we now wear slimmer cut clothing, the pocket is becoming obsolete. It was good while it lasted but times have changed and men have now embraced bags.

imageCredited to Coco Chanel in 1920, the little black dress or LBD was designed to be long-lasting, versatile, affordable, and accessible to the widest demographic possible. But what is the male equivalent of this modern day marvel? Enter the big black bag.

imageBorn out of necessary, the tote bag has boomed thanks to the technology age with multiple personal electronics like iPads, iPhones, laptops and all the accessories needed on a daily basis, some might say the importance of function outweighs form but I disagree. Whether it’s made of suede, canvas, crocodile or leather, the big black bag has become a part of everyday life thanks to its practicality and but mostly it’s appeal.

While other bags have come and gone from my closet, the BBB has lasted the test of time and ultimately piled up on my shelves. Maybe I’ve accumulated too many but every single one has fulfilled the requirements placed on the little black dress. What has the pocket done?

Leather tote Givenchy, leather and suede reversible tote Saint Laurent, leather tote Balenciaga, shirt Zara, Jeans Dior a Homme, watch Michael Kors, sandals Armani.

The pocket has ruined the lines of many an outfit, that’s what it’s done. No one looks good with keys, wallet, phone studded in them all. Loved this post, very Marc by wearing it on your head.
