I have to be honest, I am not a summer person, I hate the heat and how people’s sense of style goes out the window as soon as a lick of sunlight hits their skin. I myself delight in winter and all the stylish layers and opportunities it has to offer, but unfortunately I sometimes struggle with what is weather appropriate. Come rain or shine, no matter what the season is, I will happily wear a flannel… Just not always as a shirt.
Originally created for the working class, the flannel shirt has done really well for itself. After climbing the social ranks through the decades to eventually take prime position on a Saint Laurent runway as a luxury item, its status has evolved from need to want.
And while I’ve been wanting them all summer, the temperature hasn’t exactly been cold enough for needing them. But with flannel weather just around the corner they can officially graduate from being tied around my waist, to being worn as a shirt again.
