Fashion loves a party, we literally celebrate like no other industry and it seems there is always some envelope or bottle being opened just for us to toast ourselves and how fabulous we really are. So with our natural association with alcohol, do we have a responsibility to promote an image of drinking responsible?
Apparently we don’t according to the October issue of Interview magazine. Featuring models Anja Rubik, Edita Vilkeviciute, Daria Strokous, Andreea Diaconu and Lily Donaldson in an editorial entitled Pretty Wasted, photographer Fabien Baron captures the beauties in a range of poses that displays the models as not only stylish, but also vulnerable.
While there is nothing wrong with being the last one to leave the party, is it dangerous for fashion magazines to promote the image of drinking till you get drunk? I guess not, as long as you are wearing something from Marc Jacobs AW14.
This is strange that I love this editorial, seeing as I don’t drink. BUT the images are fantastic, beautiful clothes and makeup, plus I love the grimy setting.
The fucked up party girl trope is too annoying. I know the obnoxious drunk girls in the real world and don’t want it in my glamour magazines. I’d rather a lux scene with jungle cats and party dresses, some enviable fantasy, instead of this trashiness. This photo shoot almost mocks the fashion buyer like “we know you’re just going to wear our dress to a party, drink too much and get stupid, why bother showcasing the fashion any other way?”
