Walk The Line

Fashion and sex have always gone hand in hand, it seems brands use more skin than clothing to sell their products. While there is a very fine line between showcasing sexy and showcasing vulgarity, very few brands unfortunately have mastered this equation. Dancing this fine line since his arrival, Olivier Rousteing has transformed Balmain from a French rockstar brand into a worldwide hyper sexed machine.

Balmain SS15 Continuing to up the sex factor for SS15, Olivier Rousteing recruits a new gang of scantily clad models including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Adriana Lima, Isabeli Fontana, Crista Cober and Joan Smalls all dressed in fashion that could barely be considered clothing. Shot by Mario Sorrenti, the photographer captures the models interacting with each other and doing unsexy stuff like playing video games and eating burgers.

Balmain SS15And while these scenarios tone down some of the vulgarity of the clothing, it just feels that Olivier Rousteing might not actually understand the ‘powerful woman’ he is so obsessed with if he thinks that in order to be powerful one must be a hyper sexualised plaything… But than this a man that thinks Kim Kardashian is a fashion icon.

Well sales have been down since his obsessed with the K’s has blossomed, so I think he’s trying something new. Not sure on the direction of it, nor the execution, but we’ll just have to see. Bring back Decarnin.
