Since its conception in the 1930s, the Aloha shirt or more commonly known as a Hawaiian shirt with its signature one pocket and garish colourful prints of floral and fauna has continued to flourish despite its unappealing nature to the masses. But for some unknown reason, the iconic design has had a rise in popularity and influenced a new generation with floral fashion appearing in full bloom on the runway signifying that maybe Spring has really begun sprung.
Popping up in SS14 collections from luxury brands like Prada, Givenchy, Dries Van Noten and Saint Laurent, not just on the Aloha shirt, florals have become one of the more dominant trends in the last few seasons cover everything from sneakers to suits helping simple designs to come into full bloom. And I have to say I’m a little partial to a little floral delight like this printed shirt from French brand April77. While its tropical print might seem bold compared to other styles, it still manages to stand out against everything, even plumes of coloured smoke. But is that because it simply an iconic design that has stood the test of time or are we simply looking back nostalgically to our roots for happier days? Maybe it’s just the power of the flower.
LOVE this post! Not only for that super shirt, but also for the smoke flare. WIN.
