Forget Instagram, forget VSCOcam, forget Twitter, if there is any app on my iPhone that gets more attention than any other, it has to be the BBC Weather app. Not because I take any particular interest in the weather but because nothing strikes more fear in me than the possibility of a Spring shower while I’m dressed in Saint Laurent suede. So as the seasons change bringing us fresh cool mornings followed by warm sunny afternoons, it can be harder and harder to organise and direct one’s wardrobe to fit with the forecast.
So giving up our staple diet of mohair, leather and wool after such a long cold spell is never easy but the transitioning period offers the opportunity to shake the dust off of our Summer clothing and the frost off of Winter clothing to create the ultimate transeasonal wardrobe. After obsessing over Tommy Ton’s shots from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Australia over the last few days, my lust for easy, light and crisp clothing has gone tenfold… I have decided to make it happen, it’s time to let go of Winter and transition to the warmth.
Take the humble cigarette pant, nothing better represents the definition of a wardrobe staple than this classic trouser thanks to its lightweight fabrication, flattering cut and versatility to go with any seasonal attire. And if they can stand the test of the tropical humidity and the dry heat of the greenhouses at Kew Gardens, what better garment to adopt for the transeasonal weather of London? Now I’m ready for whatever the weather wants to throw at me.
