Homely Comforts

If I’ve not said it before then let me state the obvious now – there is no place like home. For me though I call two places home – England and Australia. They give me the best of both worlds, the hustle and bustle of London and the tropical outdoors of The Gold Coast. Having grown up in Australia, the beach has always held a special place in my memories – just the smell of that warm air or the sound of crashing waves takes me back to my childhood days spent with family and friends exploring the coast and soaking up the sunshine.

Weirdly over the last 10 years of having lived in London I had stopped calling Australia home as sadly I don’t get back there as much as I’d like to but lately I pine for it. There a times where something small will reignite a memory and they all come flooding back leaving me with a deep desire for that feeling of returning to a familiar landscape.

Maybe it is the hot summer days we have been having or maybe it is just that being in lockdown a million miles away from family and not knowing what is going on, if everyone is safe or when I’ll get to go back and visit but lately I’ve desired that sense of being home a lot. Only time will tell when I can return to my roots, but until then I can return to the beach and find a little solitude in the memories of all those good times albeit with cooler temperatures, smaller waves and more Loewe. It’s still comforting though, and isn’t that what home is all about?
